Darn It! I left my house in plenty of time to make the 20 minute trip to the High School on Saturday for the PHS 2010 Graduation Ceremony. I left about 15 after 8am thinking I would get there in plenty of time to get my favorite spot by the fence leading to the stadium and I would be able to get the PHS 2010 Seniors as they were walking to the field for graduation.
Well, it just did not work out that way…I made great time from my house in Bent Tree, over McClain Mountain Road, up 53 to Tate, onto Hwy 53 toward Jasper and when I topped the hill just past the propane gas company, I came to an almost immediate stop!
It was about 25 til 9am and I thought, well, I have plenty of time. I might just get there at 9am but I should be able to get there in time. As I was ’sitting’ there, a lady and about 4 kids walked past on the side of the road on their way to the graduation. Now we are out on Hwy 53 going toward Jasper and I’m thinking, my, they sure are walking a long way…and as I moved up, I would get up next to them or ahead of them but they would always pass me. They eventually left me behind and probably made it to graduation on time…
I took a picture of the traffic thinking, this is crazy! When I finally got the the intersection to turn onto the campus, there were two lanes but they were both packed. We slowly moved up the hill and of course, the clock is ‘ticking-ticking-ticking’…I just knew I wasn’t going to make it to video the Senior’s walk to the field…
We got up the hill and over the rail road tracks and I thought, if I could get just a little further, I’d park my car and walk too…well, the opportunity came about where there was a road off to the side of the road that was a dead end road. Someone had parked there and I pulled off, pulled in behind the other car and I started ‘hoofing’ it to the graduation.
It was right at 9am and I was thinking to myself, maybe they will hold off for a few minutes since there are still so many cars on the road that had not parked and these cars had family and friends of the Seniors in them….
Well, when I finally made my 1/8 mile walk or so, the Seniors were already on the field in their chairs, several of the announcements had been made and we were already about 10 minutes into the graduation…
So I got to watch the graduation from then on, which made me a little sad that I hadn’t gotten there in time to get the Seniors and their walk to the field. I was able to get lots of photos and the Seniors as they left the field and were walking back to the High School to get their actual diploma. I was able to get some hugging, hand shaking, kudos and such from family and friends that you don’t normally get when you are watching the Seniors Walk To The Field, so all in all, it ended up being a great Graduation Day!
God Bless These Seniors As They Make Their Way Into The Next Phase Of Their Life - Congratulations Go To Each & Every One Of Them!!!
See if you’re in the pictures of the PHS 2010 Graduating Seniors - or maybe a family member or friend. Check it out!
